Strategies for Academic Portfolios

In the realm of marketing, a successful branding strategy is one of the most important contributors to organizational success. A solid branding strategy can help add visibility and credibility to a company’s products.

Similarly, nurse-scholars can build a personal brand to add visibility and credibility to their work. You can begin building your brand by developing and maintaining an academic portfolio. Such an activity can help share the results of your efforts and contribute to your success. This Week’s Discussion asks you to consider and share strategies for building your portfolio.

Note: Unless otherwise noted, initial postings to Discussions are due on or before Day 3, and response postings are due on or before Day 6. You are required to participate in the Discussion on at least three different days (a different day for main post and each response). It is important to adhere to the weekly time frame to allow others ample time to respond to your posting. In addition, you are expected to respond to questions directed toward your own initial posting in a timely manner.

Solution

It is vital to continue progressing academically while pursuing professional career goals. Electronic portfolios are classified as a collection of electronic files that reveals qualifications, abilities and experiences applicable to the employer (Leahy & Filiatrault, 2017). For the duration of my nursing career, this document can be thought of as a resume which is frequently requested by employers but is only the start of a portfolio. This e-portfolio provides structure and direction by compiling and organizing documents, analyzing for deficiencies, assessing the need for improvement and actively reacting (Burns, 2018). Another strategy I will use is providing data that proves competency. According to Casey & Egan (2013) competence describe the ability to provide safe and effective care with minimal supervision. Examples of my competency can include records of education and certifications, reports of audits, peer review, and patient perspective.

Walden University’s aim is to equip healthcare providers with the knowledge to evaluate the needs of various populations to effectively educate on prevention and restoration of illnesses (Walden University, n.d.). My two previously mentioned strategies align with Walden University’s social change continued education is key. Presenting my continued academic accomplishments in an organized fashion to professional encounters will give me increased opportunity to promote wellness to my community as an advanced practice registered nurse.
