Area of Practice Article
The area of practice I want to pursue is psychiatric care for minorities and other marginalized groups. This article details the importance of addressing minority stress through cognitive behavioral therapy, especially in cases of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This approach that I want to incorporate into my care for my clients is to help them explore stressors in their lives that have stemmed from discrimination based on race, gender, or sexual orientation that can lead to harmful behaviors. Also, identifying the role PTSD plays in incidences of suicide. The database I used to find this article came from EBSCOhost APA PsycInfo.

Difficulties Encountered
The first challenge I faced while navigating this database was finding where I could view the full article. The site provided me with an initial page that gave information about the article, like the abstract, but did not have the article available through EBSCOhost APA PsycInfo. Instead, I was redirected to another database, ScienceDirect. This other database gave me the article in full and not just an abstract and publisher details. The other challenge I faced was finding the article I wanted to use the next day. Most of the databases require students to go through Walden University but do not have the option to reopen articles without logging in through an institution. Even then, students still have to search for their articles of choice.
Database Usefulness
Although there are some challenges, every database will have its flaws. I think it would benefit my colleagues in their search for peer-reviewed articles to use this database. EBSCOhost has options to filter through specific databases that relate to most topics of choice under the “Choose Databases” link. EBSCOHost APA PsycInfo narrows the search for psychologically related articles through keywords and limitations applied like publication date ranges and publication types.
Recommendation of Database
I would recommend EBSCOhost APA PsycInfo because it offers a variety of resources relating to behavioral and mental health research. This database is described as a resource that compiles “information on the psychological aspects of related fields such as medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology, technology, linguistics, anthropology, business, law, and others” (EBSCO Help APA PsycInfo, n.d.). No matter what practice one wants to pursue, most clients can relate to needing mental health services to some degree. This database can help provide scientific evidence of approaches that have been analyzed to assess effectiveness and ineffectiveness in client care.
