Discussion Post: Nonpharmacological Interventions for Hypertension
My area of practice is Family Nurse Practitioner within Master of Science in Nursing program. I chose a peer-reviewed article that was on nonpharmacological interventions for hypertension, as hypertension is a common occurrence at work, within families close to me, and it is one of the leading diagnoses in healthcare. I have noticed that older clients may forget to stick to a medicine regimen or experience side effects that are “unbearable,” so many will stop medications, but if they can incorporate nonpharmacological interventions into their daily life, there may be improvement. This article interested me when reading as it gave 18 interventions that participants in a trial could try, such as: aerobic exercise, resistance training, dietary intervention, acupuncture therapy, health education, and even music (Li et al., 2022)

Database Used
This article was located through Walden University’s library using the advanced search and keywords as nonpharmacological and hypertension. After the search, the website directed me to Science Direct by Elsevier, which I know has a plethora of books as well.
Difficulties Experienced During the Search
When first using the search with Walden’s library, I had a little difficulty finding articles that showed a full text and were within a recent year. I then found how to narrow the years down and I figured out that it website will redirect the user to another website to display the full text.
Usefulness of the Database for Colleagues
Overall, I do think the database would be useful for colleagues as the database provided thousands and thousands of articles, journals, or readings on whatever topic was decided. I also like the idea that one can narrow down years and click certain boxes for peer-reviewed articles which helps to have valuable, credible sources.
Would You Recommend This Database?
There is some learning when it comes to using the library and its database, but I would recommend using it. I would recommend using the database as it offers a variety of articles or journals that are reliable, and the best part is that it is free to students.
