Week 3: Discussion: Using the Walden Library
I am currently working towards my Family Nurse Practitioner education, and I plan on focusing on wound care once I am board certified and established. The articles I have chosen, two in particular, focus on wound care education. From personal experience, as well as peer-reviewed literature, education for patients can be one of the most important things you can do when working with patients. This is even more true when it comes to wound care. The general public has a basic understanding of most common ailments, but I have found that they typically do not have a clue when it comes to wounds, either how they form, how they progress, or how to assist in them healing. The two articles I chose not only deal with patient education, but developing patient-centered care. I first became exposed to the idea of patient-centered care while working on an abdominal transplant unit. These patients had so much going on, it was paramount that we remembered the patient first and foremost when developing care plans and procedures.
Database Selection
I utilized the Walden University Library database for finding an article relevant to my area of interest. I chose this database because Walden University gives students the available resources needed to research their areas of interest. Information can be found easily if you utilize the database accordingly, ensuring to use the correct terminology for the specific topic you’re interested in.
Recommendation of Database
I would recommend this database to my colleagues as it tends to be a very reliable source of information. It contains numerous types of works, not only journal articles. This database can be further used to find peer reviewed articles, which are some of the highest standard for research collection. i recommend the database as the filters allow it to be easy to use, and it covers a vast range of subjects and sources, which makes it easier for the researcher to collect information on a specific topic.
Difficulties with Utilization
The biggest difficulty that I found while utilizing the database was just making sure I used the right combination of terms in order to find the information I was looking for. If you use basic or generic terms, this will end up with pages upon pages of results, which can lead you down the metaphorical rabbit hole.
