Using the Walden Library

Where can you find evidence to inform your thoughts and scholarly writing? Throughout your degree program, you will use research literature to explore ideas, guide your thinking, and gain new insights. As you search the research literature, it is important to use resources that are peer-reviewed and from scholarly journals. You may already have some favorite online resources and databases that you use or have found useful in the past. For this Discussion, you explore databases available through the Walden Library.

Note: Unless otherwise noted, initial postings to Discussions are due on or before Day 3, and response postings are due on or before Day 6. You are required to participate in the Discussion on at least three different days (a different day for main post and each response). It is important to adhere to the weekly time frame to allow others ample time to respond to your posting. In addition, you are expected to respond to questions directed toward your own initial posting in a timely manner.

Solution

Week 3 Discussion Post: Area of Practice

My areas of practice and particular interest are Wound Care, Foot Care and Dermatology.  Since the skin is the body’s largest organ and initial defense, the decomposition thereof is the common denominator. Therefore, I find these three specialties intertwined. Not only are they intertwined, they are also collaborative regarding prevention, management, and treatment modalities.

Data Base Used

In research of this article, I utilized Waldon Library which directed me to PUBMED Central. I found this article to be insightful regarding cost effective treatment for the low income and homeless community.

Difficulties Experienced While Searching This Article

I originally researched Walden Library Oasis. Initially, I was concerned that articles pertaining to wound care and foot care were scarce. After further research, I was able to find articles that mentioned specific areas of wound care, and dermatology. I am continuing my search pertaining to foot care articles. I found utilization of specific keywords most productive.

Data Base Recommendation

I would highly recommend Walden’s Library and PMC journals to my colleagues as the articles are very interesting, and informative. Comprehension of key words to use during searches are important and helpful. This data base could be of great value to myself and my colleagues. I recommend anyone using the database to be patient, persistent, and utilize the videos that provide guidance on how to access the available data.
