Using the Walden Library

Where can you find evidence to inform your thoughts and scholarly writing? Throughout your degree program, you will use research literature to explore ideas, guide your thinking, and gain new insights. As you search the research literature, it is important to use resources that are peer-reviewed and from scholarly journals. You may already have some favorite online resources and databases that you use or have found useful in the past. For this Discussion, you explore databases available through the Walden Library.

Note: Unless otherwise noted, initial postings to Discussions are due on or before Day 3, and response postings are due on or before Day 6. You are required to participate in the Discussion on at least three different days (a different day for main post and each response). It is important to adhere to the weekly time frame to allow others ample time to respond to your posting. In addition, you are expected to respond to questions directed toward your own initial posting in a timely manner.

Exploring Telehealth in Nursing Practice

Telehealth is one of the most discussed aspects of modern healthcare. Telehealth involves the integration of technology in medicine administration, record-keeping and communication between patients and caregivers to improve patient experience (Bargi et al., 2024). I selected the peer-reviewed article titled A Review on Advancements in Telehealth: Transforming Patient Care in Nursing Practice by Bargi et al. (2024), which I accessed using the ProQuest database. This article explores the dynamic role of telehealth in modern nursing, emphasizing key areas such as remote monitoring, virtual consultations, and artificial intelligence integration. It aligns closely with my professional interests as a step-down nurse and my academic goals in the MSN program.

Search Experience and Challenges

One challenge I encountered while searching for this article was filtering through the large volume of content on telehealth. Although ProQuest is a robust database, its search function initially returned a wide range of results, many of which were not peer-reviewed or directly relevant to nursing. I used Boolean operators as guided by Booth (2008) to refine the search and limited results by publication date, peer-review status, and subject area. Once I adjusted these filters, locating high-quality articles such as this one became easier.

Usefulness of the Database for Peers

ProQuest is a valuable resource for my colleagues, particularly because of its comprehensive collection of academic journals, systematic reviews, and practice-based literature across various fields. Its advanced filtering tools and citation features are beneficial for nursing students who are developing research-based assignments. I would recommend it, especially to those seeking interdisciplinary resources on evolving healthcare trends like telehealth. Its ease of access through Walden’s library system and its relevance to current healthcare topics make it an indispensable tool for academic and professional development.
