Select a problem that you have experienced or identified within your workplace or in a health care setting. What steps would you take to address the problem?

Solution

Problems in the workplace is an inevitable experience. Maini, (2023) suggests that to effectively address problems in the workplace, some steps should be taken. Define the problem, brainstorm possible solutions, evaluate the solutions, implement the solution, monitor and adjust.

A problem that has been experienced has been patient falls after anesthesia. This has been especially true for patients that have just had knee replacement surgery. Patients are at an increased risk for falls after surgery because of the anesthesia medication, medical comorbidities, difficulty ambulating at baseline, and increased frailty of patients. By using methodologies that improve patient safety and quality of care. The first step would be identifying the problem, which is patients are at increased risk for falls postoperatively. Develop a plan that increases safety for patients, instructing patients that it is part of our safety protocol to have staff accompany them to restroom postoperatively. Analyze by using data to assess if this implementation is successful in helping decrease falls. Lastly, implement this intervention into policy if effective.
