In my organization, direct advertisements for job postings placed on a hospitals career page and third-party job boards, like Indeed is being used most. It’s one of the best recruitment methods when hiring for urgent open positions because they can reach a large number of people quickly. Direct job advertising is an effective method to attract the attention of top candidates in a more targeted and efficient way (Kyprianou, 2024). Online recruitment platforms can offer a range of advantages for employers and job seekers alike, such as accessibility, efficiency, and flexibility. These platforms are accessible 24/7 from anywhere with an internet connection, allowing employers to reach a large and diverse pool of potential candidates, while job seekers can find and apply for jobs that match their preferences, qualifications, and availability. In addition, online recruitment platforms can save time and money for both employers and job seekers by automating and streamlining the recruitment process. Finally, they offer more flexibility and options for both employers and job seekers, allowing employers to customize their job ads, criteria, and assessments, while job seekers can create and update their profiles, resumes, and portfolios. All in all, online recruitment platforms provide a convenient way for employers to find the right candidates quickly and efficiently.
Online recruitment platforms can present some challenges to employers and job seekers, such as increased competition, reduced quality and reliability of information, and security and privacy issues. Employers may be exposed to more applicants, rivals, and demands, as well as to cyberattacks, data breaches, or legal liabilities. Job seekers may be exposed to more opportunities, rejections, and frustrations, as well as to identity theft, scams, or discrimination. Additionally, these platforms can create information overload, miscommunication or deception; reduce the personal touch and rapport; create biases, errors or gaps in screening and assessment processes; and create feedback and follow-up mechanisms that lack quality (Suhail et al, n.d.).
Employers can face several drawbacks when using websites for recruitment, including a large volume of irrelevant applications, potential privacy issues, and a lack of personal connection with candidates. To mitigate these challenges, employers can refine their job postings, implement robust filtering tools, and consider using social media or professional networking platforms for more targeted recruitment.
