As technology continues to advance, organizations are using social media and online platforms to attract and acquire eligible employees. What methods and specific websites are currently being used in your organization to attract and acquire potential employees online? As a job seeker, reflect on the benefits and challenges of using social media platforms, such as LinkedIn, for finding employment. What are the drawbacks that an employer faces when using websites to attract future employees for positions and how can these drawbacks be reduced?

Solution

As technology advanced there have been new online platforms to recruit potential employees. As for the websites that my current organization uses to attract and acquire potential employees, it has been mainly through our company website, where our company advertises opening positions within our clinics and posts important information that will capture job seekers attention such as salary, benefits, descriptions, the company’s culture, values and other opportunities that our company offers. They also use Indeed and Social Media (Instagram) platforms to promote job hiring as well.

With the use of technology for job seekers to find opportunities, and build a professional brand. Employers also face drawbacks when using online platforms to attract candidates such as potential biases, misrepresentation on candidates qualifications or personality, and privacy concerns. To reduce these issues, employers can utilize diverse recruitment strategies, including traditional job boards, job fairs and employee referrals to ensure a diverse pool of candidates, conducted through background checks (Pros and Cons of Social Media during a Job Search, n.d.), and ensure employers are aware that social media profiles may not always reflect a candidate’s true nature and should not rely solely on this information for hiring decisions (The Pros and Cons of Using Social Media in the Recruitment Process, 2019). This leads to having employers focus on important information such as work experience and skills, rather than personal opinions or irrelevant posts. In conclusion, while we know online recruitment has its challenges, it does make it an essential part of today’s recruitment view.
