Using the Walden Library

Where can you find evidence to inform your thoughts and scholarly writing? Throughout your degree program, you will use research literature to explore ideas, guide your thinking, and gain new insights. As you search the research literature, it is important to use resources that are peer-reviewed and from scholarly journals. You may already have some favorite online resources and databases that you use or have found useful in the past. For this Discussion, you explore databases available through the Walden Library.

Note: Unless otherwise noted, initial postings to Discussions are due on or before Day 3, and response postings are due on or before Day 6. You are required to participate in the Discussion on at least three different days (a different day for main post and each response). It is important to adhere to the weekly time frame to allow others ample time to respond to your posting. In addition, you are expected to respond to questions directed toward your own initial posting in a timely manner.

Solution

I have chosen the topic of interest for this discussion in my area of practice, pediatric Acute Care. I researched and verified one peer-reviewed article and analyzed it. My findings are explained below.

Foster, R. (2010). Building the Science of Pediatric Nursing. Journal for Specialists in Pediatric Nursing15(1), 1–2. https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1744-6155.2009.00224.xLinks to an external site.

As I was researching for my topic of Pediatric research and current practice with up to date science, I was directed to the EBSCO website, followed by ProQuest, and could read the full text of the article. Keeping science moving forward is an important responsibility for journal editors, editorial board members, and peer reviewers. But it’s just as important for authors, too—they need to know the ins and outs of their field, make meaningful connections between their work and existing research, and build on what’s already out there. Most providers rely on journals and evidence-based practice to improve their skills and provide the most up-to-date care. Reporting correctly is very important to be able to do this.

Difficulties

This site was challenging to navigate at first, but once I accessed it, I found a wealth of useful information in the full articles. Many of the same articles appear in other journals as well, but after locating this site, retrieving information became much easier.

Usefulness for Colleagues

The Journal of Pediatric Nursing (JSPN) is an essential resource for Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (PNPs), providing reliable research, evidence-based practices, and discussions on advancements in pediatric healthcare. Since PNPs play a key role in caring for children and families, staying informed about the latest developments helps them make sound clinical decisions and improve patient outcomes.

Recommendation

Recommending the Journal of Pediatric Nursing (JSPN) to colleagues is beneficial because it is a reliable source of high-quality, peer-reviewed research created specifically for pediatric nursing. Whether looking for the latest evidence-based practices, the most up-to-date care strategies, or insightful discussions on emerging trends, JSPN helps keep healthcare professionals informed and equipped to provide top-notch patient care.
