Using the Walden Library

Where can you find evidence to inform your thoughts and scholarly writing? Throughout your degree program, you will use research literature to explore ideas, guide your thinking, and gain new insights. As you search the research literature, it is important to use resources that are peer-reviewed and from scholarly journals. You may already have some favorite online resources and databases that you use or have found useful in the past. For this Discussion, you explore databases available through the Walden Library.

Note: Unless otherwise noted, initial postings to Discussions are due on or before Day 3, and response postings are due on or before Day 6. You are required to participate in the Discussion on at least three different days (a different day for main post and each response). It is important to adhere to the weekly time frame to allow others ample time to respond to your posting. In addition, you are expected to respond to questions directed toward your own initial posting in a timely manner.

Solution

I chose the following topic because I plan on finishing my FNP first and then Mental Health practitioner. I chose to do my discussion on EMDR for treatment of PTSD. Eye Movement Desensitization reprocessing has been proven to help people with trauma over come it. The key EMDR is dissociation. EMDR is like building a wall between the someones mind and the feelings and emotions that can hurt you. Its a lot like unpacking a suitcase and putting your clothes in one place and the suitcase in another. This treatment not a typical treatment one would expect. It actually seems kind of silly when you first begin the treatment but it has been proven to be an effective treatment.

I used the the Walden Library database to access several peer reviewed articles and case studies.  After accessing the Walden Library I entered PTSD in the search block and it brought up the National Center for PTSD, it was actually quite a simple process.

I didn’t have any problems accessing the materials I needed and there were plenty of articles to choose from. I would definitely recommend this database.
