The local hospital that I’ve selected is MultiCare Deaconess Hospital. It is a local hospital in Spokane WA. Overall, the purpose of a risk management program in the hospital is to protect patients, staff members and visitors from inadvertent injury. Usually, the plan is also designed to protect the organization’s financial assets and intangibles, such as reputation and standing in the community. One of the goals of Multicare Deaconess Hospital is to improve the behavioral health of the community. By improving the behavioral health of the community, the hospital will in turn reduce the amount of risk patients that they would potentially have to see and reduce the potential unnecessary spending. Risk assessment is crucial for developing risk management plans to prevent or minimize mental health patients’ risks that will impede their recovery. A lot of physical illnesses begin with metal health. By up keeping persons mental health, a lot of physical illnesses can be prevented, so in turn, when a hospital develops a behavioral health program in the community, it can use the resources that are allocated by the federal government more efficiently and reduce the unnecessary spending.
