When undergoing education, an individual has a career and professions they wish to pursue and become upon completing their education and training. The profession of choice will require specific educational and professional requirements for an individual to reach these positions. The high-level job position I aspire to secure in the allied health field is medical laboratory director. The educational and professional qualifications needed for this position include a competition for a doctorate or master’s degree in medical technology (Garcia et al., 2021). Moreover, it is important to acquire certification and licensure from the various accreditation boards, such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Arriving at this position requires a typical career path, such as pursuing a bachelor’s degree in medical technology, certification, a master’s degree in the relevant field, and working through the years to transition from one position to another.
Apart from this position, the same level position in a different and unrelated health care field is director of nursing, which requires a professional to possess a master’s degree in nursing, licensure as a registered nurse, and nursing experience working in a managerial or supervisory capacity (Ghorbani et al., 2023). The typical career path for the director of nursing position is completion of a bachelor of nursing degree, passing the NCLEX exam to be registered as a nurse, undertaking supervisory roles, pursuing a master’s degree, and gaining a director position.
The medical laboratory director and the director of nursing have different roles within their jurisdiction. These two positions are positions of leadership, such that the medical laboratory director is in charge of ensuring all laboratory operations are followed as per regulations. This director manages the laboratory staff and enhances the quality of laboratory results. On the other hand, the director of nursing oversees the nursing operations and compliance with all regulations.
