In the modern nursing sector, all nurses and healthcare providers are expected to participate in policymaking. The RNs and APNs have massive opportunities, such as joining professional nursing organizations through which they can develop policies and changes that promote the delivery of quality services. The policies in the nursing sector determine all the activities and operations that help healthcare providers offer quality healthcare services to patients when they come to healthcare facilities (Marymount University Online, 2021). Modern healthcare service providers need to offer quality and competent care to patients when they have the necessary educational level. Every professional needs to achieve the necessary educational requirement that enables them to participate in the regulatory processes.
A nurse’s higher educational level is directly proportional to their ability to get involved in policymaking decisions and regulatory processes. The higher the education, the more the nurse knows to make an impact on the policy or legislation they are trying to change. There are, in general, more restrictions on the scope of practice for advanced practice nurses (APNs); therefore, they are more motivated to make a policy change to practice to the full extent of their knowledge and skill. Nurses’ empathetic approach must be used to promote more collegiality by negotiating with every healthcare provider in the healthcare facilities. APNs could encourage more structured problem-solving approaches in healthcare facilities that help disseminate quality and competent services to patients (Mason et al., 2020). Registered nurses should participate in the regulatory process because they are most at the bedside and with the patients. Registered nurses use evidence-based practice and see the needs of the public and what changes need to be made to improve patient outcomes.
