After reviewing the results of some of your SOP’S often I find trends in cultural differences and opportunities with leadership engagement or maybe its an opportunity with investment in the mission, vision and values of the healthcare organization. How would you suggest to your leaders or your colleagues that they should review the attached article and what would you expect them glean from the article?

Solution
For my fellow leaders, this suggestion at present would be very easy, currently there is a major influx of new graduate nurses working on my unit and their consensus has been one in which a culture of reprimanding is taking place over one where achievements and accomplishments are being celebrated. This is leading to burnout among those new graduates that are struggling to find their workflow and learn the job expectations and how to become a more well rounded critical care nurse. Starting in an ICU is a high learning curve with little room for error as small errors can cost individuals their lives. The empathetic leader can learn from this article that listening to these new graduates, their concerns, stresses and fears can help them grow better and faster if we as leaders collaborate better on how to support them through such a difficult learning curve. Considering that many of them feel that their accomplishments are being undervalued, it would deeply benefit the unit and my fellow leaders to take the message of this article to heart.
