Assume you were rejected for a position you applied to, based on the selection methods used. Discuss the concepts of reliability and validity as they relate to recruitment and selection practices. Why are both factors critical when considering which selection method to use in making hiring decisions? Additionally, evaluate how your organization’s current recruitment and selection process addresses Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) alongside reliability and validity. Provide specific examples or experiences where possible to illustrate your points.

Solution

Picking the best candidate for any job is always important to ensure quality and consistency of the product or service provided but none more important than in the healthcare sector. The recruitment of any multiprofessional healthcare worker often requires employers to utilize surveys and questionnaires as part of the hiring process to ensure validity and reliability of potential employees while ensuring fairness among the recruitment process (Tiffin et al., 2024). Acccording to Tiffin et al. (2024), the United Kingdom identified potential general practitioners through the Multi-Specialty Recruitment Assessment (MSRA) to assess the competnecies of the physicians to ensure the individuals selected were best suited to the demanding career and likely to remain within the career long term.

As part of maintaining diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices at the forefront of HCA healthcare’s training and education at every level of the organization, they provide continuous education opportunities through their platform Healthstream. According to Dessler (2023), diversity training and education through videos and educational platforms help to shift the culture at every level of the organization and ensure that individuals understand their own bias. DEI practices are best upheld when organizations identify root causes of bias and create an actionplan that includes that level of the organization’s input on how to change the culture or at the very least help them identify when bias is preventing DEI practices.
