I this day and age social media for better or worse is woven into the societal norms in most of our lives. It has been reported by CNBC news broadcasting station that one and five Americans get their daily news from social media. I believe this is why there is such a shift in how organizations attract potential employees. According to the Pew Research Center it has been estimated that eighty three percent of U.S. adults use YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. From a marketing perspective I see adds on different social media platforms for numerous things. Not only do you not have to pay for commercials that a consumer may just skip through you can send an add right to their smart phone on a social media website as they are actively reading posts from friends families and influencers.
My establishment uses a number of different avenues in an attempt to recruit potential employees. My organization has a Facebook, a YouTube account, Instagram page, Twitter/X account, a LinkedIn profile, as well as their own website with easy to navigate tools to access potential job postings. Social media and the internet as a whole have become substantial ways of communication and are used on a daily basis. With that, comes accessible information. That would be the overall benefit as a job seeker. It is possible to do a quick google search for all different kinds of jobs that are out there. Some of the drawbacks that I personally have found is that a lot of the times the jobs are already taken, the requirements of the position are different from the actual job, or the salary does not match the position when you apply. These can be very frustrating issues that arise when job searching.
On a final note, I feel as an employer there can be many different set back that come up. For one, you don’t get to see a real connection at times when hiring online. Even from a perspective of video chatting, it is hard to get a read on someone based on a video call. I feel that is why Human Resources is so necessary. As a leader it is hard to find the time to really investigate a potential candidate. Human Resources at my establishment will go through all of the potential applicants and find the ones who are qualified, understanding of the position, and understand what a potential offer letter will look like. I feel that Human Resources is the solution to these issues within my own organization.
